Story

Hey everyone

This year I am making a difference by participating in Bridge to Brisbane and running for a cause that is close to my heart and who are doing some amazing work.

Epilepsy Queensland are a pillar of understanding and support for those living with and/or someone with Epilepsy! They helped brighten the darkest time of our lives, May 2022 when our daughter was diagnosed with Epilepsy.

With no real understanding of Epilepsy, we dismissed early signs and occurrences of focal epileptic seizures for mere fluttering of the eyes, 'butterfly kisses' which we thought cute and giggled at. Within a couple of short months and undefined reviews by local GP's, our daughter was admitted to hospital where she was diagnosed immediately with Epilepsy, experiencing at its worst 23 Focal impaired awareness motor seizures in a day.

Whilst still prone to seizures and battling through the after effects, our daughter living up to her name "Star" continues to stay strong, brave and tough, conquering all the "you may never again"; competing in her favourite sports on court and in the swimming pool, attending school camp unattended and loves to rock climb! This all by God's good grace received through modern day medicine and support units like Epilepsy Queensland.

Running digital education sessions for impacted families and everyday associations like staff at our daughters school and sporting club members, Epilepsy Queensland have made living "on top" of epilepsy possible for our Star.

This is why we are participating in this years event, to spread awareness of epilepsy and the support available, in hope to help others avoid having to live through our traumatic experience and/or gain the post experience blue sky we are living today!

Thank you so much for your support! Please leave Star/us a message when donating to convey on to our girl, these messages inspire her to get up and keep pushing.

Donations made through this platform are secure and will be remitted directly through to my charity of choice, Epilepsy Queensland Inc.

    Epilepsy Queensland Inc

For more than 50 years, Epilepsy Queensland has been assisting Queensland families touched by epilepsy. Services include education, counselling, information services, children’s and family support programs, specialised training programs, support groups and advocacy. Epilepsy directly affects around 2% (1 in 50) of the population and still remains one of the most misunderstood conditions in today’s society. 28,740 children and adults in Queensland with active epilepsy which is more than muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, Parkinson’s disease, motor neurone disease, and several others combined. Anyone can be diagnosed at any age and Epilepsy Queensland helps to replace the fear and uncertainty with knowledge and empowerment. 60 people per week receive an epilepsy diagnosis. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), it is doubtful there is any other medical condition so universally neglected due to a combination of social stigma, low profile and lack of resources. WHO recognises epilepsy as the world’s most common serious brain disorder. Please help us to be the beacon of hope for people living with, and impacted by epilepsy in Queensland.
